The goal of periodontal therapy is to restore diseased gum tissue to health.

Periodontal Therapy – Canton, MS

Tooth loss is not inevitable! With good oral hygiene and regular cleanings and dental exams, you can keep your natural teeth for life. At Dental Solutions of Mississippi, we are not only concerned with your teeth, but the structures that support them, as well; we are always on the lookout for early signs of periodontal disease so we can do whatever it takes to help you keep your teeth.

The goal of periodontal therapy is to restore diseased gum tissue to health. If left untreated, periodontal disease can spread from the gums to jaw, resulting in tooth loss. If we do identify signs of disease, we will recommend periodontal therapy.

Periodontal Therapy Procedures

There are many therapy options when it comes to restoring health to your periodontal tissue:

Scaling and Root Planing – This deep-cleaning technique is the first step in controlling gum disease. Your dentist will use hand scalers or ultrasonic instruments to remove plaque and tartar from beneath the gumline.
Gum Grafting – If your gums have receded as a result of periodontal disease, it may be necessary to surgically graft healthy gum tissue to the affected areas. Doing so protects your tooth roots in hopes of preventing tooth loss.
Dental Implants – In the event that you do lose a tooth, we will suggest dental implants. Implants are surgically placed beneath the gumline and provide an “anchor” for a realistic-looking dental crown.

Your Role in Periodontal Health

The main cause of periodontal disease is plaque, so it is essential to brush and floss daily to prevent plaque buildup. It is also important for you to visit our office for regular professional cleanings so we can diagnose and treat early signs of gum disease.
